EFUS Conference: The future of prevention (FR)

Security, Democracy and Cities. The future of prevention

Approximately every six years, EFUS organises an international conference. The 2012 conference is entitled "The future of prevention" and is held near Paris, France. The results of the previous conferences were written up in Manifestos, thus becoming a reference point for institutions such as the United Nations. Professionals and non-professionals, from the private and the public sector are invited to attend in an attempt to define common policies in the field of prevention.

CEP is involved with one specific session, as outline below:

Prevention of reoffending
Designing eff ective strategies for the prevention of reoffending requires a refl ection on the role of sanctions. Policies with an emphasis on imprisonment as the main solution for crime should be challenged. When implementing the rules for “living together”, what kinds of sanctions do we need? What is the role of cities, particularly local elected offi cials, in the penal system and in supporting prisoners in their reintegration aft er release? What is the best way to link the various actions of institutions and civil society aimed at eff ectively preventing reoff ending?
