Policy, theory and practice in probation brought together in one book

Publication date: 17-10-2011

Article:

Rob Canton - ProbationIn its Criminal Justice Series, Routledge has published the newest book of Rob Canton who is Professor and Head of Research in Community and Criminal Justice De Montfort University, Leicester. Probation: Working with Offenders is the first single-authored, comprehensive volume on probation to have been published in England for a number of years. Although it is intended to be an accessible introduction to probation for staff, students and general readers, it is also a critical text that offers different ways in which probation and criminal justice should be understood. The book therefore aspires to be a theoretical and critical contribution to criminal justice at a time when probation's future in England is even more than usually uncertain. Although the main focus is on England and Wales, there is some discussion of other UK jurisdictions and of contemporary trends in European probation practices.

The webpage includes some comments from a number of eminent people, including Leo Tigges (CEP SG) who makes some very generous remarks about the book.
